The Mission of the Georgia Black Constructors Association (GBCA) is to provide aggressive advocacy for the utilization of Black-owned construction firms during any form of construction requiring qualifying constructors. It is a fact, that African-Americans are overlooked for employment in the higher-paying jobs in construction and pushed into the lower-paying trades, African-American males in construction earn 67 cents for every dollar that the average construction worker makes and white male construction workers make .20 cents more than the average construction worker.* Unemployment for African Americans is projected to reach a 25-year high by 2008, with the national rate soaring to 17.2 percent and the rates in five states.
